Orange Eye (OE) Neocaridina shrimp are a stunning new variety in the aquarium hobby. Their most distinctive feature is their vibrant orange eyes, which create a captivating contrast against their colorful bodies.
The genetics behind the OE trait follow Mendelian recessive inheritance patterns. This means that when you breed an OE shrimp with a regular black-eyed Neocaridina, all of their immediate offspring (F1 generation) will have black eyes. However, these F1 shrimp are carriers of the OE gene. The magic happens in the next generation (F2). When you breed these F1 carriers together, about 25% of their offspring will display the striking orange eye trait. This genetic mutation makes breeding OE Neocaridina an exciting challenge for shrimp enthusiasts, as it requires patience and strategic pairing to produce these eye-catching creatures.
